According to the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) 2020 report, women are only about 25% of the subjects and sources of news around the world. Less than 1% of news relates to gender inequality or to issues that primarily affect women’s and girls’ lives, including pressing health and safety concerns. As a result, the vast majority of stories out in the world heavily express men’s perspectives, priorities, and achievements. Audiences are also denied a richer understanding of the world, and gender inequality becomes even harder to overcome.
Reflect Reality is a resource and toolkit for newsrooms, journalists and business professionals to increase women as sources in the news media.
