Reflect Reality – Amplifying Women’s Voices in News

According to the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) 2020 report, women are only about 25% of the subjects and sources of news around the world. Less than 1% of news relates to gender inequality or to issues that primarily affect women’s and girls’ lives, including pressing health and safety concerns. As a result, the vast majority of stories out in the world heavily express men’s perspectives, priorities, and achievements. Audiences are also denied a richer understanding of the world, and gender inequality becomes even harder to overcome.

Reflect Reality is a resource and toolkit for newsrooms, journalists and business professionals to increase women as sources in the news media. The resource includes strategies and best practices from more than two dozen individuals and organizations working around the world to amplify women’s expert and authoritative voice. Reflect Reality provides resources for news producers, businesses and journalism trainers, and has been implemented successfully in newsrooms around the world
