Socio-economic Impact of COVID-19 and Media Consumption among Vulnerable Communities in Central Asia

This study was undertaken by Internews in partnership with the European Neighborhood Council and provides a mapping of media and information consumption among vulnerable communities (labor migrants, refugees and stateless persons and ethnic minorities) in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. during the COVID-19 pandemic, while identifying their vulnerabilities and risks of social exclusion.

The study makes specific recommendations after analyzing the socio-economic impact of COVID-19, media trends, media consumption and ways of combating disinformation. The report also highlights how journalists and editors consolidate their sources, respond to “fake news,” and educate audiences through live interactions.
